Embracing Butterflies
One of my favorite elementary level independent study program lessons is the one where kids build a butterfly ecosystem and document the stages of life from egg to caterpillar to pupa to monarch. Maybe because I am a change agent, I just love such a radical metaphor. Not everyone is thrilled about evolving so radically, especially when you don't know what the future holds. As a charter movement leader, I have gotten to see and love the butterflies-- from the ones in your stomach to the ones in the field. Connect with what it means on the deepest level as a charter school educator and embrace your butterflies.

The Dashboard and Assessments Impact on Our Schools

In this session, participants will learn more details about the Dashboard and how it can affect our schools. We will go over how assessments tie into our school Dashboard and how each school is currently performing. We will talk about how opting out affects our schools under this new accountability system and how we can educate our families about the impact of the Dashboard on charter schools. We will also show you how to use the CAASPP Digital Library resources to help address areas of need for your students.

NOTE: You will need to create a Digital Library account before attending this session. Please follow the directions to do that before the meeting.
1. Navigate to the Digital Library login screen at https://www.sbdigitallibrary.org/
2. Select the green Register for the Digital Library button.
3. Enter your first name, last name, and IEM e-mail address.
4. Select the Register button.
You will get an email notification to log in and create your personal password. Bring this information with you to the meeting!

This breakout session will show you how easy it is to create a secure parent portal using Google Sites. This parent portal can contain whatever information you feel your families need from usernames and passwords to school-sponsored online curriculum, links to work sample folders, etc. This can be a time saver for you because your parents can now have access to their information with a few mouse clicks.
