Embracing Butterflies
One of my favorite elementary level independent study program lessons is the one where kids build a butterfly ecosystem and document the stages of life from egg to caterpillar to pupa to monarch. Maybe because I am a change agent, I just love such a radical metaphor. Not everyone is thrilled about evolving so radically, especially when you don't know what the future holds. As a charter movement leader, I have gotten to see and love the butterflies-- from the ones in your stomach to the ones in the field. Connect with what it means on the deepest level as a charter school educator and embrace your butterflies.
